Junior Scribes

Train at Sofut Workshop

Religious school students at Congregation Beth Israel of Irvine tried out writing Hebrew letters, touched parchment, held tefillin and saw a Torah Scroll up close at a recent workshop. Rabbi Miller demonstrated how a scribe writes with a quill and special ink. Their experience prompted many questions about the work of writing sacred scrolls. Each student received a piece of parchment with their initials inscribed on it.

Craft of the Scribe Workshops are appropriate for youth or adults. Call for available dates.
